Exhibition Opening – We Are Artists Everyone: the Arts Center in Action, 1970-1986

Join us for the exhibition opening of “We Are Artists Everyone, the Bridgeport Cultural Arts Center in Action, 1970-1986. This interactive exhibition will explore the history of the Arts Center through images, text, artworks, oral history, and video. Visitors are encouraged to attend Professor Yohuru Williams’ (St. Thomas University) lecture on the the Arts Center and the National Black Arts movement at 6:30 pm in the 1st floor programming room on the same night.

Lecture: The Bridgeport Cultural Arts Center and the National Black Arts Movement

Professor Yohuru Williams, the University of St. Thomas-Minnesota, will lecture on the history of the Bridgeport Cultural Arts Center and its place in the larger national trends of the black arts and civil rights movements and other socio-political trends in contemporary America. The ABCD Cultural Arts Center was a creative and social hub of Bridgeport in the 1960s and ’70s. The Arts Center occupied a space at the intersection of visual arts and music, and politics and community activism.  Attend the lecture and the exhibition opening for We Are Artists Everyone on the same night!
