TAKE AND MAKE KIT: GALIMOTO!
Monday, Feb 7 - Saturday, Feb 19
All Day
Come to the North Branch Library Children’s Department to pick up a Galimoto Take and Make Kit! WHAT is a Galimoto? It is a toy vehicle made with recycled wood, wire and more.
Our kits are perfect for children ages 8-12 with an adult to help put them together. Note: One kit per family. Limited supply of kits–available until we run out…
Once you have made a galimoto from your kit, see what other items you have at home to create your own designs for a galimoto!
These kits were created by the Eli Whitney Museum in Hamden CT which specializes in STEAM programming. The kits were purchased as a gift from Librarian Bina Williams. Come read Author Karen Lynn Williams’s picture book called Galimoto, illustrated by Catherine Stock about a young boy creating his own galimoto!
Made by children in Africa, galimotos are toys made from recycled wire and other materials. The word galimoto means “car” in Chichewa, the official language of Malawi. … They saw the turning of the wheels made the legs move when pushing the toy.
