When visiting the Bridgeport History Center, we request that our patrons follow our rules. They are in place to help care for our collections and preserve them for future researchers.
- No food or drink is permitted in the Bridgeport History Center.
- All patrons must sign in. Patrons requesting material from storage for the first time must sign our registration form in order to use collections.
- Pencils only! Please do not use pens or highlighters! Pencils are available in each room.
- All bags must be placed under the tables you are using.
- Materials do not circulate and cannot be removed from the reading room (excluding microfilm)
- When working with material, please keep it flat on the table! Do not lean on it, do not lift it, do not write notes with material underneath.
- When working with material from boxes, please use only 1 box at a time, and remove only 1 folder at a time. The staff will provide a large bookmark to help your return an item to its appropriate place.
- Please ask staff before photocopying material due to an item’s potential fragile nature.
- You are free to use laptops and cameras, but please place cases under the table.
- Visitors are free to browse the books available on our shelves. Closed stacks are accessible by staff ONLY.
- Some material is restricted. If you request restricted material, the staff will let you know.
