Via I-95 Northbound: Exit 27(Lafayette Blvd. Downtown) – Keep to the right through three traffic lights. Turn left at the 4th light (Broad Street), going under I-95. Library is at the end of the block on the corner of Broad and State Streets.Via I-95 Southbound: Exit 27, turn right onto Lafayette Blvd. At 3rd traffic light, turn right onto State Street. At light, turn right onto Broad Street. Library is on the corner of State and Broad Streets.
Via Merritt Parkway: Exit 47 (Park Ave.) South to State Street. Take a left onto State Street at the YMCA. Three traffic lights to Broad Street. Take a right. Library is on the corner of State and Broad Streets.Via Route 8/25 Southbound: Exit 2 (Fairfield Ave.) Straight until you can go no further. This is State Street. Take a left onto State Street. Two traffic lights to Broad Street and take a right. Library is on the corner of State and Broad Streets.
PARKING – is parking available at the library?
Parking is available on Broad Street and all side streets at metered spaces (bring quarters). After 4 PM on week days and on Saturdays and Sundays, parking is free. There is also a small lot directly across the street from the Library that is available to Library patrons after 4 PM and on weekends.
HANDICAPPED PARKING –
Patrons requiring a ramp, may park in designated spaces along the left side of the library building. A door with a bell along the left side of the building is accessible by wheelchair. Please ring the bell and a staff member will open the door for you. From here, there is a ramp that leads to the main lobby of the library where the elevator to the third floor is located.
TRANSPORTATION:
The BHC is easily accessible by public transportation. The Burroughs-Saden Library sits directly on the “Coastal Line #2” and is close to several other GBTA bus lines. The Metro-North/Amtrack train station is just two blocks to the East of the library. The Ferry from Port Jefferson, L.I., is also just a few blocks away.
OBITUARY and ARTICLE Requests- copies of newspaper articles and obituaries
The BHC will fulfill simple requests for copies of obituaries and articles in the local newspapers. There is no indexing for most years of the local papers; patrons must provide specific dates or date ranges with their requests. There is a five dollar research fee + .15/photocopy. Patrons should NOT send money in advance. An invoice will be sent with a response from the BHC. Requests may be submitted by mail to the BHC or by phone or email.
