Acquisitions
In its capacity as a special collection and archive focused on the City of Bridgeport and its relationship to the surrounding cities and state of Connecticut, the Bridgeport History Center receives and solicits donations of photographs and films; institutional, business, and organizational archives; personal papers and manuscripts; postcards; ephemera; some memorabilia; publications; occasional art work; and other materials from the Bridgeport community at large. The department occasionally buys such items for the collection when these materials hold significant research value and/or pertain to an important, but underrepresented subject in the department’s holdings.
The act of acquisition through donations and purchase enables the Bridgeport History Center to fulfill its mission to collect, preserve, and make available historical material that document Bridgeport’s History. Materials are used not only for research, but for exhibition, allowing for various interpretations of the local history, cultural heritage, and historic geography of Bridgeport.
If you wish to donate items to the History Center, please refer to our contact page to reach the Archivist.
