About the Newfield Branch Library
Welcome to the Newfield Branch Library! Located at 755 Central Avenue, the Newfield Branch is proud to serve Bridgeport’s East End community as part of the Bridgeport Public Library system. With deep historical roots and modern, community-focused design, our library is a vibrant space where neighbors connect, learn, and grow together.
Originally opened in 1922, the Newfield Library has been a cornerstone of the East End for over a century. After a relocation in 1991 to 1230 Stratford Avenue, the library continued to provide essential services for more than 20 years. In March 2022—a month shy of its 100th anniversary of its original opening—we were thrilled to reopen at our fully renovated and expanded original location on Central Avenue.
Our new 15,500-squarefoot facility is designed with the community in mind. We offer:
- A welcoming Children’s Room and Teen Room
- Computer stations and free Wi-Fi
- Study rooms and a large community meeting space
- Weekly programs and events for all ages
Each week, we host engaging activities for children and teens, including Storytime, arts and crafts, chess, and game days. Adults can take advantage of computer classes, tech support, and cultural programs that support lifelong learning and digital literacy.
At Newfield Library, we’re more than just books—we’re a community hub. Whether you’re looking for a quiet place to read, a fun activity for your child, or help with technology, we’re here to support you.
Come visit us and see what your library has to offer!
