Title:
General Burnside's Headquarters, Roanoke Island, North Carolina - 1862
Scope & Content:
This series of sketches depicts the bombardment by Union forces of a dirt fort constructed by the Confederates on Roanoke Island, land strategically bounded by the Croatan and Roanoke Sounds. Here, General Burnside's headquarters is depicted as a wooden framed house, possibly a farm house, with a small barn or shed and several tents pitched on surrounding land, back right.
