Title:
U.S. Gunboat "Chasseur" passing Hatteras Lights, Cape Hatteras, North Carolina - January 12, 1862
Scope & Content:
This sketch is the first in Shadek's book to depict a North Carolina location. Once the troops left Annapolis, they had a relatively easy and direct route south on the Chesapeake Bay and down to Cape Hatteras on the Outer Banks where they could enter the sound and approach important, strategic locations on land like New Bern and Fort Macon.
