Title:
Motorcycle delivery of books to branches of the Bridgeport Public library
Description:
Black and white photograph showing a motorcycle-bookmobile parked in front of the South Branch of the Bridgeport Public Library. The South Branch opened in 1922 on Myrtle Avenue between South and Railroad Avenues on land donated by Marie and Virginia Soules: two sisters who lived on Warren Street adjacent to the land. It temporarily closed during the 1930s and, in 1965, it was permanently closed because of the State Highway expansion of Route 25. A young man is taking a pile of books from the motorcycle's storage compartment for daily delivery to the branches.
