Performer William E. Burke stands on a sidewalk surrounded by smaller clowns dressed in colorful clothing representing various clown characters. One is blowing a horn and another is holding a bright red balloon. A small dog with a tin can tied to its tail appears at the lower left. Script from Burke's speech is highlighted on the lower right. This poster is one of many fine examples of circus posters printed by the Strobridge Lithograph Company of Cincinnati in the early 1880's when American entrepreneur and cultural icon P.T. Barnum first negotiated the merger of his circus to form "P.T. Barnum's and Great London Combined."
