The Circus Poster Collection : Barnum in the late 1800s
Title:
A grand Arabian caravan of 20 dromedaries and camels
Scope & Content:
Men dressed in clothing that could be associated with the steppes of Asia can be seen leading a throng of camels and dromedaries. High, snow capped mountains dot the background. Both "coal black giants" and "2 milk white sacred Mecca specimens" are promised to appear in the "colossal street parade."

This poster is one of many fine examples of circus posters printed by the Strobridge Lithograph Company of Cincinnati in the early 1880s when American entrepreneur and cultural icon P.T. Barnum first negotiated the merger of his circus to form "P.T. Barnum's and Great London Combined."
