The Circus Poster Collection : Barnum in the late 1800s
Title:
The only and orginal LuLu in his original gigantic and straight-up jump
Scope & Content:
At the front, left, A man dressed in a leotard with a feminine lace collar and placket is seen being propelled straight upward high into the sky. A large cloud of smoke from the cannon puffs up underneath him. Circus tents, a river, and buildings can be seen below and in the distance. His jump is billed as a standing perpendicular "spring from earth straight to the high apex of the tent."

This poster is one of many fine examples of circus posters printed by the Strobridge Lithograph Company of Cincinnati in the early 1880's when American entrepreneur and cultural icon P.T. Barnum first negotiated the merger of his circus to form "P.T. Barnum's and Great London Combined."
