LIBRARY BUDGET 2019-20
Including Shortfall to Expected Full Funding (per Library Referendum vote) @ 1.3 mills
To Bridgeport Free Public Library Patrons:
We are pleased to provide you with our 2019-2020 Adopted Budget. As you approved by the voter referendum in November 2017, the Library Fund annual budget is 1.3 mills of the City Grand List. Because the certified 2018 Grand List is $6,353,076,923, the Library Budget for 2019-2020 should be $8,259,000 – however, the City Administration has only allocated $7,753,000 – a shortfall of $506,000 which would be used to provide more hours of operations, more programming and more library patron materials. The Library Board has contested this violation of the referendum mandate and will continue to seek the full Library Fund amount due to provide essential library services to our community. The above budget imposed by the City Administration allows us to provide 47 hours of Library service at five locations.
The Library Board appreciates your patience with the closure of the former Old Mill Green location and its transition to the newly opened East Main Street location – we are in the process of starting the second phase which will double the space for the East Side Branch. Construction of the new Newfield Branch is well underway and we hope to have its Grand Opening this fall, aiming for November 1, 2019. The Library Board is also excited to break ground on the new Upper East Side location at East Main Street between Louisiana and Pennsylvania Avenues that will be a state of the art Technology focused facility with community and meeting room space.
Please feel free to contact me or Elaine Braithwaite, our City Librarian (email@example.com) if you have any questions or suggestions on how we can serve you better.
