Introduction<\/span><\/p>\n

From 1982-1983, Bridgeport’s Afro-American Educators’ Association conducted interviews with black residents of Bridgeport as part of a project funded by the Connecticut Humanities Council.\u00a0 The project statement and a list of participants are listed below. \u00a0This project is a study of the changes in Bridgeport\u00a0\u00a0 neighborhoods from the viewpoint of selected Black residents during the historical periods of World\u00a0 War I, the Depression, World War II, and the 1960’s.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0By means of interviews, we have investigated the social and economic effects of each period on Black Bridgeporters.\u00a0 All persons interviewed have resided in Bridgeport during at least three of the targeted periods.\u00a0 We attempted to explore how their families, friends, and neighbors were affected during those turbulent times.\u00a0 We discovered the changes that occurred on their jobs, in their neighborhoods and in the city as a whole.<\/em><\/p>\n
