Oral history interview with Wayne Hiller.

Wayne Hiller is a long time composer and conductor for Stratford Community Band. He grew and his brother Kenneth grew up in Stratford where he attended Garden School for elementary and Stratford High School. Art and music were favorite subjects in school. He played in the Stratford High School Band led by teacher Bob Lennox. His father was an engineer with the Bassick Company and his mother worked as a secretary and receptionist for the Health Department.

Hiller attended Susquehanna University then transferred to New York University. He joined the Navy Band-Pacific Fleet and played piano and trumpet. He spent four years in Honolulu with the band until he left to continue his education. He eventually worked as Music Director for the Washington Carver Gay Blades. In Connecticut, Hiller has worked for numerous musical entities and schools such as the St. Anne's School-Black Rock, the Trumbull cadettes, music groups in New London and Cape Coral, Florida and Cleveland, Ohio. He served as a music teacher at Tomlinson Middle School in Fairfield as well as Curial in Bridgeport, Dairen schools, Roger Ludlow in Fairfield, and Central High School in Bridgeport. He has composed and conducted music throughout his career.
